Asynchronous Learning

As a part of the RISE Initiative, DCPS will offer educators and leaders at RISE schools access to micro-credential courses as a means to grow their instructional and professional skills and earn PLUs. These micro-credentials are 10-15 hour, asynchronous online courses that concentrate on the development of one skill, strategy, or practice and require a competency-based demonstration. Micro-credentials are largely independent and self-paced learning experiences that are self-selected based on a teacher or leaders interests, plans, or goals.

Micro-credentials differ from traditional professional learning in that they require a demonstration of competency. Although there is a knowledge building aspect to micro-credentials, the defining element of these courses is the task that must be completed and are assessed as a demonstration of competency for the skill, strategy, or practice that the micro-credential is centered on. Each micro-credential has a specifically designed task that may require: the creation of a lesson plan, a video/audio recording or instruction, the submission of student work artifacts, expository writing, a peer or colleague observations, or another form of assessment.

Eligible Educators: This opportunity is open to all RISE educators.
